GOAL: $2,000
RAISED: $1,550
Roy Smith - Rider # 24

Dear Friends:
Smart Ride #20 and need to update the page again. This will be my fourth and final Smart Ride. It was announced earlier this week that after Smart Ride #20, there wont be a #21 next year. Whatever the reasons behind the decision, I'd like to thank our founder, Glen Weinzimer for the immense undertaking of running this amazing event for 20 years! Of course he wasn't alone so I also thank all of the people behind the scenes!
When I got involved with the Smart Ride four years ago, to be honest, it was to prove to myself that I could do it. Since then, I’ve seen of all the good Smart Ride, and my team sponsor, The Broward House does for the community. For that reason, I’m setting a very ambitious goal of $2000. This will match my amount from last year.

Last year, SmartRide founder Glen said this years ride is personal. As I talk to donors, it’s encouraging to hear that most don’t know anyone personally who has passed away from AIDS. This tells me that treatments and education are working. Two of the cornerstones of the agencies that benefit from Smart Ride which reinforces my dedication to raising money for the Ride. Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated.
There are so many wonderful charities to choose from. I have chosen The SMART Ride (Southern Most AIDS/HIV Ride) because 100% of every dollar I raise will be shared with AIDS Service Organizations around Florida. Very few organizations can boast that they have this guarantee, in-fact it is unheard of in an event like this.
On Friday November 17th, and Saturday November 18th I will join the 20th Anniversary ride with hundreds of other individuals who will ride their bicycles or crew from Miami to Key West 165-miles. Our journey will be one filled with hope, with memories, with pride, and with the dream of a future free of AIDS.
IDid you know that those being infected at the highest rate are ages 13-23, not a typo! Education, prevention, and care can make this disease a memory instead of a present-day reality. Nothing would give me more pleasure than to hang up my bicycle and know that the world is free of HIV and AIDS.
I hope you will consider joining me on this journey and make a generous donation.
Margaret Mead once said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world, indeed; it is the only thing that ever has." You are part of the change, thank you.
